Aligning with our commitment to service, Digitech Business Equipment have always emphasised the crucial role that system security plays in the modern digital landscape. This is especially true for multifunction printers and copiers, devices that routinely handle sensitive data. Recent research undertaken by our partner Sharp, has shed light on an important issue, that a significant number of professionals feel that they are not fully informed about key areas of technology, notably cloud technologies and security. This gap in knowledge has the potential to impact decisions they make for their business or organisation.
The study, a survey of 5770 professionals responsible for IT purchasing in SMEs, discovered that less than half felt they had sufficient understanding of the benefits of cloud (40%) and security (44%). Additionally, knowledge gaps extend to understanding network limitations (66%), specifications of device hardware (64%), software licenses (63%) and the myriad opportunities presented by platforms like Office 365 (63%).
These findings underscore the importance of integrating and simplifying systems and solutions. 25% of technology professionals identified a lack of system integration as a barrier to maximising their IT investments, while another 25% felt hindered by the complexity of software and systems. Furthermore, 23% felt that deficits in management knowledge prevented businesses from leveraging their investments effectively.

Colin Blumenthal, Vice President of IT Services at Sharp Europe, pointed out the value of specialist advice: "In a challenging economic climate, smaller businesses are focusing on efficiency, productivity, profitability, and getting the right value from investments they are about to or have already made. But with technology continuously evolving and becoming more complex, sometimes that isn’t as easy as it might sound. Given this, expert advice should always be sought to ensure the right decisions are being made, particularly as SMEs across different industries have specific needs."
Given the varied requirements of organisations across different sectors, it's clear that informed guidance is invaluable. Concerningly, 42% of businesses expressed that they weren't provided with comprehensive guidance from the outset, and felt a void in continued support. 26% indicated that their business trajectory was slowed due to widespread gaps in technological understanding amongst their workforce. It's telling that a mere 23% had someone internally tasked with IT management, no doubt compounding the issue.
Here at Digitech Business Equipment we recognise these challenges, and are ready to assist clients in making informed decisions. Ensuring the security of your devices is vital, to safeguard the data they handle and protect critical information. Our team is here to help in the journey, ensuring that any choices made are both sound and practical.
